| Dallas has the distinction
of having many shopping firsts. North Park Center is the first covered shopping
mall in the US and has the largest-grossing Dillard's and Neiman Marcus stores
in the country ( Bradford at Lincoln Park is in the vicinity).
Highland Park Village Shopping Center , built in 1931, is the first shopping center
in the US . The first place that comes
to mind when thinking of shopping in Dallas is Neiman Marcus as the original store
founded in 1907 is in downtown Dallas . Instead of admiring the glossy pages in
its renowned Christmas Book (catalog) on the glossy pages, admire the store's
elegant merchandise in person and eat at its highly-rated Zodiac Restaurant. Convenient
hotels include The Magnolia and The Adolphus. Dallas
also has more shopping centers per capita than any other major US city. In the
winter, the Galleria has the US ' tallest Christmas tree. A wonderful way to cool
off in the hot Texas summer is at the Galleria's ice skating rink. Stay close
by in the Embassy Suites Dallas Galleria , Hilton Suites
Dallas North , and The Fairmont . Heavy
duty shopping is happening in Uptown, Highland Park , North Dallas , and in the
suburbs of Plano , Richardson , and Carrollton . Dallasites
are said to be world-class shoppers who doll up to strut their stuff while buying
more stuff. Don't let that stop you from wearing what's most comfortable to you
as sweat pants and jeans are everywhere, too. Not
only does Dallas break records on high-end shopping, but also it has one of the
US ' largest permanent flea markets at Trader's Village in Grand Prairie . Car
lovers rejoice at Love Field's Antique Mall, the largest US antique and classic
car mall across from Love Field airport and near the Radisson Central
. Buy collectible toy cars and admire the real thing under one roof.
Ooh and ahh over classics like the '56 black Thunderbird and 1938 French fire
truck. The mall has babysat '59 Cadillac, the Excalibur, and the futuristic DeLorean. Cars
aren't the only antiques at Love Field, which boasts over 250 booths displaying
items such as jewelry, glassware, rare books, and china. A restaurant and tearoom
is on site. Park Cities Antiques is an
upscale antique market with over 90 dealers selling English, French, and American
pieces in over 18,000 square foot of space. Park Cities Antiques is within five
miles of North Park Mall, Highland Park Village , The Galleria Mall, Deep Ellum,
and Hilton Park Cities . Dallas
oldest group antique shop, Uptown's McKinney Avenue Antique Market, offers fine
treasures from the English, primitive America , France , and Staffordshire. It's
located on the McKinney Avenue Trolley Line which travels between Dallas ' arts
district and the McKinney Avenue neighborhood with a variety of shops, restaurants,
and clubs on its route. The trolley runs daily and Hotel Zaza
is on the Trolley Line. Uptown is the
neighborhood to find eclectic and funky shops especially on Knox, Henderson ,
and Greenville Avenue streets. Nighttime hang out, Deep Ellum, is full of art
galleries, folksy shops, vintage resale shops, and other funky stores. More-->> |
